Solus Operating System

Solus

is built by contributors volunteering their time and resources to create this free and open source operating system. We are grateful for everyone’s contributions and love to continuously provide support and improve Solus.

Solus Project, in it’s entirety, is free, for end users.

This will always be the case, and we love providing you with something we all share a passion in: an awesome computing experience! It is also true that it is not free to create and supply the Solus Operating System, or any of it’s projects. This requires actual resources!

In order to develop Solus, we have to operate a small network of servers, buy hardware, spend lots of money and internet connections, electricity (build servers are running 24/7!), replace broken hardware, maintain certificates, subscriptions, domains, etc. As you can imagine, this all very quickly adds up!

During 2015 we managed to raise almost £1100 in one fund raiser!! The precise amount is hard to calculate because it became stretched over a period that was technically longer than the duration of the fundraiser, but it just goes to show what we can all do when we get together.

On December 25th, 2015, Solus 1.0 will be released to the world. It’s taken an incredible amount of work and dedication, and through this process we’ve built an amazing community, a family almost, and we’ve worked together to deliver our vision.

2016 will be dedicated to building Solus 2.0, and we need your help! We have lots of really awesome things still on the roadmap, such as a Recovery System as part of the Solus installation, Migration Tools for Windows/Mac/Linux migrants, Backup Management. We’ve shown we’re dedicated to the job at hand, and with your help we can do so much more.

If you’re ready to board, then now is the time. Solus is the True Indie Linux Operating System, in every sense. We’ve the expertise and passion to revolutionise the Linux desktop, and we want you to be part of that revolution.
