Panic Shopping Masks

Following the rise in coronavirus infections, images of people desperately buying toilet paper have gone viral around the world, yet this is not a product that helps fight the disease, so why don’t people stop buying it?
It is the indicated FOMO syndrome, which explains part of this “strange” mass behavior.
FOMO syndrome (fear of missing, or fear of missing something) is what you see in many people in crises like those of covid-19, explains Professor Nitika Garg of the University of New South Wales.
“You think if a person is buying it (toilet paper), if my neighbor is buying it, there has to be a reason and I have to get involved too.”
